Course description

This innovative course is aimed at medical teachers who wish to learn new techniques to improve learners' engagement and retention. The course will provide exposure to the Case Method using the Question, Listen and Respond Method of Teaching. This method will be showcased by faculty from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard Business School, and Harvard Medical School. Participants will learn how to Construct a Memorable Lecture, Lead an Interactive Morning Report, Perform Assessments and Give Feedback, Work with Real Volunteer Patients who give Immediate Feedback on Communication Skills. On Saturday afternoon, participants will choose from multiple Break-Out Sessions including: Applying Team-Based Learning Principles to Attending Rounds, Coaching Faculty and Fourth-Year Medical Students to Teach Interactively and Well, Designing and Creating Online Interactive Educational Modules, Communicating to the Media Clearly and Well, Participating in a Multidisciplinary Simulation Laboratory, Nurse-Doctor Co-Teaching, and Developing a High-Yield Toolkit of Interactive Techniques for Small Groups. Each teaching exercise will be demonstrated and/or practiced in real-time to give participants the experience of using these techniques. 

This is an accredited, livestreamed course offered by Brigham and Women's Hospital. This course is targeted to Primary Care Physicians, Psychologists, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Specialty Physicians, Pharmacists, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Emergency Department Physicians and Social Workers.
