Dr. Zucchelli, a University of Bologna graduate (DDS, 1988; PhD in medical biotechnology, 1999), has served as full professor and dean of the periodontal department since 2000, establishing himself as a leader in periodontal research. His accolades include the AAP Foundation-E Bud Tarrson Research Award (2006, 2008) and honorary membership in the American Academy of Periodontology (2020). He has served as president of the Italian Academy of Osteointegration (2020–2022) and is an active member of EAED, SIdP, the European Federation of Periodontology and an ITI fellow. An innovator in soft tissue plastic surgical techniques, Zucchelli is associate editor of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, has authored over 150 PubMed-indexed publications and is a sought-after international speaker and educator. He has also co-authored two textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery and authored "Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery" (Quintessence, published in 12 languages) and "Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery Around Implants" (2022).
