Lecturer in Extension, Harvard University

Raymond Comeau is a lecturer in Extension. From 1981 to 2008 he served the Division of Continuing Education, Harvard University, as assistant dean of University Extension, associate dean of management studies, and director of foreign language instruction. A specialist in French studies, he is co-author of seven French textbooks on grammar, literature, culture, and history, including the four-volume Ensemble series, now in its sixth and seventh editions. The French Ministry of Education named him Officer of the Academic Palms in 1992. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Carmen S. Bonanno Award for excellence in foreign language teaching in 1990, was honored for 25 years of teaching in Extension in 2003, and received the Dean's Distinguished Service Award in 2008. He thinks his Extension School students are a joy to teach, as they bring experience and motivation to the classroom, and an exceptional readiness to learn.
