Senior Lecturer in Spanish, Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Douglas Morgenstern is a senior lecturer emeritus in Spanish at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has taught intermediate and advanced Spanish since 1980. Previously he taught Spanish at Stanford University, Spanish and ESL at community colleges in California, and English in Colombia, where he served in the Peace Corps.

In 1993, he received the Carmen S. Bonanno Award from the Extension School, and a Levitan Teaching Prize in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences from MIT. In 2007, he was honored for 25 years of teaching at Extension. He has been a co-author and contributing author of various Spanish textbooks, an advisor for a telecourse, and has presented and published on conversational activities as well as the use of technology in language learning. Since 2000 he has directed the MITUPV Exchange, an online site where students in the United States and in Valencia, Spain, post text messages, photos, and videos.
